Aotea College - Building a Future-Ready, Climate-Controlled Learning Environment

Project Need

The new Aotea College campus in Porirua needed a comprehensive mechanical and electrical system tailored for modern educational requirements. The brief required a large-scale heating and cooling solution, commercial kitchen ventilation, and robust controls, all delivered within a seismic-compliant framework to support safety and long-term operational performance.

Our Role – Delivering Integrated Systems for Comfort, Control & Compliance

We were contracted to deliver the mechanical and electrical services for the entire new build. This included advanced HVAC systems, kitchen ventilation, space heating, and a fully integrated building management system (BMS) to give the school precision control over its internal environment.

What We Did – End-to-End Mechanical & Electrical Integration

Our scope included:

  • Installation of Daikin Heat Recovery VRV systems for efficient heating and cooling
  • Daikin air-cooled chilled water plant with buffer tank and pumps feeding a large air handling unit
  • Installation of two Halton commercial kitchen hoods weighing a combined 1.7 tonnes
  • Full kitchen extract ventilation system
  • Siemens BMS controls and wiring for integrated building management
  • Mechanical control boards and full electrical services for mechanical systems
  • Deployment of over 400 space heaters throughout the college
  • Full seismic installation and bracing for all systems to meet compliance and safety standards

The Outcome – A High-Performance, Scalable Education Facility

The completed systems at Aotea College provide a safe, energy-efficient, and controllable indoor environment for students and staff. The HVAC and ventilation systems are tailored to meet the demands of a busy, high-occupancy facility, while the integrated BMS ensures ongoing ease of use and operational efficiency. With all work delivered to compliance and high-quality standards, the project supports the long-term sustainability and functionality of the college.

20–24 Haining Street Apartments - Enhancing Comfort and Efficiency for Residents

Project Need

A new 8-storey, 78-unit apartment complex in Te Aro, Wellington, required a modern mechanical ventilation system that would provide fresh air, reduce energy use, and support a comfortable living environment. The client also needed compliant and effective ventilation solutions for shared spaces such as the bike storage, locker rooms, and rubbish room.

Our Role – Delivering a Smart, Sustainable Ventilation Solution

We were engaged to design, supply, and install a complete mechanical system featuring energy-efficient ventilation across all apartments. Our scope also included electrical works supporting the mechanical infrastructure, as well as custom ventilation for service areas within the building.

What We Did – Smart Installation with Energy Recovery

Our team installed mechanical ventilation units with heat recovery in each of the 78 apartments. These systems deliver a continuous supply of fresh air while capturing heat from outgoing air to improve energy efficiency. We also installed:

  • Fresh air systems in the basement bike and locker rooms
  • Extract ventilation for the rubbish room
  • Full electrical fit-out supporting all mechanical equipment

The Outcome – A Comfortable, Compliant, and Energy-Efficient Building

Residents now enjoy better indoor air quality and year-round comfort with lower energy costs. The heat recovery system supports sustainability goals while meeting ventilation standards. Shared service areas are properly ventilated, reducing odour and improving functionality. All systems were delivered on time and fully integrated, exceeding expectations for performance and compliance.
